About the Conference

The Open Source Geospatial Research and Education Symposiums are biannual meetings of the OGRS community dedicated to sharing knowledge, new solutions, methods, practices, ideas and trends in the field of geospatial information through the development and the use of free and open source software in both research and education. The 5th edition of the OGRS meeting series is going to be held in Lugano and follows: Nantes 2009; Yverdon-les-bains 2012; Espoo 2014; Perugia 2016.

What is Our Goal?

Open Science is being adopted by several Research fundations worldwide as core strategy to foster the knowledge diffusion. This represents a new approach to the research and educational processes based on OPEN data, source, methodology, review, access, educational resources.
While benfits are widley recognized, it is not always simple to put this approach in practice: resources, strategies and common practices may be an obstacle. In this year symposium the OGRS community want to focus the discussion on this topic to promote, discuss and find pathways to put Open Science in Action.

  • discuss a framework and highlight a rationale about geospatial open source technology usage in Open Science;
  • build a panel of scientific research and education practices dealing with open source initiatives in the geospatial fields;

Student registration

Full-time students enrolled in a university can register as a student. Proof of status is required to process your registration. Students with an income (post doctoral and PhD candidates) are not eligible for the discounted student rate. Please send proof of your student status to foss4g-europe@osgeopt.pt with your proof of payment.

Middle/Low-income economies registration

To encourage broad participation in the conference, organizers are offering lower registration fees for delegates from upper-middle-income countries, lower-middle-income countries and low-income countries (based on the World Bank Classification).

Accepted Methods of Payment

Registration can be paid by Credit Card or bank transfer.
The transaction fees must be bear by the pertecipant following the "The principal bears the costs (OUR)" principle: As the principal, you bear the costs for the payment order and the third-party flat fee charged by the recipient bank. The full amount indicated is credited to the beneficiary.
